The DUND service allows ppp connections via bluetooth. This how to will describe how to set this service up under Sarge and how to pair a Pocket PC with Linux. It is assumed that working bluetooth hardware is installed and that the Pocket PC can scan and detect or “see” the Linux computer.

Lenny ships with swfdec as its default flash player which is fine but I wanted to try gnash since swfdec wasn't displaying Google analytics pages well.
This is a simple guide to getting a Palm handheld and Linux (Debian Etch) syncing over bluetooth. Please ensure all packages mentioned in my setup are installed.

Step 1: Ensure the Bluetooth Device Works

The easiest way to ensure that your bluetooth device works is to ensure that the gnome-bluetooth package is installed and then plug in or otherwise initialize the device! A little bluetooth icon should appear in your Gnome taskbar. Once that is the case you can go on to the next step.

The Mavin CF bluetooth card is a pain to get working even in Windows. With the mentioned bluez packages installed the CF+PCMCIA card was not detected correctly. My laptop's pcmcia/hotplug kept registering it as a generic serial port. I knew that because after …

Temporary Measure

Up to this point I have not been able to find a fix to get the internal and external mics on the Z62J laptop working with Lenny's 2.6.26-2-686 kernel. Now since the internal mic is one of the features I was looking for in my notebook this is a big issue for me so I did the following to revert to the Etch (actually “etchnhalf”) 2.6.24 kernel. Update: I switched to Sid's 2.6.29-1-686 kernel which seems to work just fine.
